Ethics & Human-Centered AI
At Atlas Copilot, our mission is to develop responsible AI systems that advance workforce development while upholding ethical standards. We are committed to proactively addressing potential biases, delivering insights in context, empowering human decision-making, and ensuring that people remain at the center of every solution.
Human-Centric Design & Collaboration
We design our technology around human needs—providing intuitive interfaces, transparent explanations of AI-generated outputs, and configurable settings for user oversight and control. Our platform enables seamless collaboration between AI systems and human users, ensuring that technology serves to supplement—not replace—individual judgment and expertise.
AI in Action: Capability Building
Atlas Copilot offers interactive AI-powered experiences tailored to individual learning and capability development needs. We see AI as an assistive tool—akin to a calculator or a pen—empowering users to work smarter, learn faster, and achieve better outcomes. We recognize that the use of AI raises important privacy and security considerations, and we are committed to transparency, user control, and ongoing dialogue to build trust.
What Data Do We Collect?
We use advanced AI and machine learning, including large language models (LLMs) from trusted third-party AI service providers, to support experiences such as chat, voice chat, Learning Pathways, and Ask AI. The nature and scope of personal data collected will depend on the experience you use. In most AI-powered components, the user initiates and orchestrates the interaction.
User data collected may include:
- Your user identifier and account details
- Messages and prompts you enter
- Voice recordings when you use voice chat, collected through your device microphone after you start a voice session
- Files and images you upload in a conversation
- Responses generated by the service
- Interaction timestamps and technical data needed to deliver the session
We do not collect more personal data than necessary, and we avoid storing sensitive data without clear user purpose and consent. Voice and uploaded files are collected only when you choose to use those features.
How Do We Use Data?
Personal data is linked to your Atlas Copilot account to provide and continuously improve personalized learning services. Where appropriate, we may incorporate additional context from your activity—such as goals, motivations, or assessment outcomes—to personalize content and recommendations, including chat conversations and insights. You always control if/when personal insights are shared with others, such as managers. We use your data to:
- Generate personalized interactions, prompts, and AI-driven recommendations
- Process voice so the Service can understand speech and respond during voice chat
- Review files and images you upload when they are part of a conversation
- Suggest resources, learning pathways, and development activities suited to your needs
- Provide deeper reflection, actionable feedback, and more relevant insights
- Initiate future tailored communications, where appropriate
- Enhance, audit, and improve our AI applications and services
- Monitor for compliance with policies and provide a safe and inclusive experience
We may remove identifiers to create anonymized or aggregated data for research, safety audits, and product improvements. As the offerings evolve, new platform features that require additional personal data will be clearly explained, with consent sought where appropriate.
How Do We Share Data?
To enable key AI-powered features, we share necessary data with OpenAI, which acts as a data processor. That data may include the messages you enter, voice recordings from voice chat, and files or images you upload. We obtain your permission in the application before this sharing begins, and you can review or withdraw it in Settings. We do not sell this data, and we do not use or share it for advertising or advertising-related profiling.
OpenAI receives the data solely to generate replies and process voice on our behalf. It is contractually required to provide the same or equal protection as we apply to that data, and not to retain, train on, or reuse any user data beyond short-term retention for safety, abuse, and quality monitoring. Data shared with other parties for research, analytics, or business cases is always anonymized to protect individual privacy.
If your access is sponsored by your employer, we may provide engagement or usage metrics, but never share detailed or identifiable personal content. We will not disclose your individual topics of interaction or content unless you specifically request or consent.
Ongoing Commitment
We regularly review and update our AI practices to align with evolving industry standards, legal requirements, and societal expectations. We welcome feedback from users and stakeholders to ensure our AI remains ethically grounded, effective, and user-centric.
